INAUGURATION OF LAGOS STATE UNIVERSITY (LASU) COLLEGIATE CHAPTER AT THE LAGOS STATE UNIVERSITY, EPE CAMPUS ON THE 3RD OF DECEMBER, 2014

The inauguration ceremony was preceded by a courtesy visit to the Dean of faculty of Engineering, Engr. Prof. E. Oyetunji.

The President, Engr Akpedeye Nnoli, FNSE, FNICE, PMP, FMP, introduced the Association as a body that seek to encourage and enhance the career paths of female engineering students by bringing collegiate chapters together for the purpose of networking amongst others and also opportunity to interact with other professional women engineers who would nurture and mentor them in the right direction for the purpose of excelling in their chosen career of engineering.

The Dean, Engr. Prof. E. Oyetunji, in his short address welcomed the APWEN team in his office before the commencement of the inauguration programme.

Participants at the ceremony were over thirty, including the students, lecturers, the Dean of the faculty of Engineering and APWEN representatives.

The event was hosted by the Lagos Chapter lead by the Chairman, Engr. Muilli.Nimot. In her speech / presentation, she highlighted the overall objective of the event and also seized the opportunity to introduce the Association to the participants and highlighted the membership benefits.

The theme of the inauguration lightening talk was, ‘Moving out of the shadows’ delivered by Engr Akingbagbohun Funmi, MNSE, FNiMechE, emphasized the need for proper planning and making every seconds of our lifes count positively. She emphasised the importance of a proper work-life balance and a success private and professional life.

The Dean, advised the female students during the inauguration ceremony to be meticulous in their studies, he also stressed the need for the students to take their academics more seriously to be able to excel and be successful to become proud graduate members of the Institution and eventually professional APWEN members.

The ceremony was concluded with the students taking an oat of inauguration and Dr (Mrs) Ishola M.M was appointed as APWEN student adviser for LASU APWEN Collegiate Chapter. Also, four student representatives were also selected for the operation / coordination of the APWEN collegiate chapter.
