TO LEKKI FREE ZONE DEVELOPMENT COMPANY (LFZDC)

The Association of Professional Engineers of Nigeria (APWEN) led by APWEN President, Engr. Nnoli Akpedeye FNSE, was at the Akodo office of the Lekki Free Zone Development Company (LFZDC) in Lagos State, for an industrial visit on Tuesday 3rd February 2015. APWEN Lagos Chair, Engr. Nimot Muili and other distinguished APWEN Lagos members joined the President on the visit.
LFZDC’s Mr Omodele Doherty – Assistant General Manager Business Development & Policy formation; and Engr. Kunle Sikiru – Assistant General Manager were on hand to receive the APWEN delegation.
After a brief introduction of all participants, APWEN President, Engr. Nnoli Akpedeye FNSE led the dialogue with a speech outlining the Association’s vision, aims and objectives; APWEN’s 2015 focus areas – Power and Water Engineering; and an overview of the 2015 activity plan. She also stated that the purpose of the visit was to explore areas of collaboration/partnership with LFZDC in respect of APWEN programmes with emphasis on internship, mentorship and research in academia.
A presentation on LFZDC governance structure, business model and a detailed description of the Lekki Free Zone development plan, projects executed to date and work in progress was then delivered by the Hosts.
The Team subsequently proceeded on a facility tour of ongoing engineering construction/installation activities at the 12MW independent power plant, road construction works, warehouse installations and other civil works. The visit culminated in interactive and highly enlightening sessions with SMEs already operating at the Lekki Free Zone, and key staff members of LFZDC.
Based on discussions held during the visit, the President charged APWEN Lagos Chapter Chair to follow through on identified opportunities for mentorship and internships for young female engineers.
