Courtesy Visit To ExxonMobil




The Association of Professional Engineers of Nigeria (APWEN) led by APWEN President, Engr. Nnoli Akpedeye FNSE, paid a courtesy visit to the oil giant ExxonMobil on Thursday 5th February 2015. Past President Engr. Patricia Opene-Odili FNSE was in attendance with APWEN National Secretariat staff. The APWEN team was received by Mr Paul Arinze – General Manager, Public & Government Affairs, ExxonMobil Nigeria.

ExxonMobil is an organization globally recognised for the promotion of technology and engineering; and is also particularly respected for providing employment and professional development opportunities for women in science, technology and engineering.

The engagement was held in appreciation and continuation of the existing cordial relationship between APWEN and ExxonMobil; and to seek areas of future partnership especially for APWEN’s 2015 girl-child enlightenment programmes.

Engr. Nnoli Akpedeye FNSE expressed APWEN’s gratitude for ExxonMobil’s support in years past and more recently their sponsorship of the 2014 Seminar/Workshop in Benin City, Edo State. She shared the Association’s 2015 plans aimed at encouraging female children to opt for sciences ultimately leading to the study of engineering.

Mr. Arinze emphasized that ExxonMobil is keen on partnering with like-mined organisations/associations in their educational programmes and gave insights into ExxonMobil’s expansive portfolio of involvement in educational activities across Nigeria, with the collaboration of academia, NGOs and others.

It was agreed that APWEN’s planned maiden edition of the Invent it, Build it event targeting girls in primary school, would be a potential candidate for an APWEN/ExxonMobil partnershipExxonMobil also expressed willingness to explore ways of working with APWEN in their future recruitment campaigns to broaden the awareness of the organisation’s employment opportunities among female engineers.
